The Story Behind Comprehensive Canine Training
Kate Godfrey, ABCDT, owner of Comprehensive Canine Training, LLC, is an honors graduate of the Dog Obedience Instructor Program of Animal Behavior College. She did an extensive training externship with mentor trainer Stacy Strickland of Jacksonville Pawsitive Training, Inc. She is also an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator.
She is also pursuing certification through NACSW to become a Certified Nose Work Instructor, currently holding the PNWI title. She competes with her senior dog Saxon at the NW3 level.
Kate is a member of K904 PSA where she is training Heidi the Rottweiler and Xander Malinois for that sport.
She has also helped with the Union Correctional Institution Rock Hounds program in Raiford, Florida. Working with the inmates and dogs in that program was truly rewarding.
Kate is also an alumnus of the University of North Florida, with bachelor's degrees in English and Philosophy, with a minor in Religious Studies. During college she had a pet sitting and dog walking business, which led her to a career in dog training.
Though there are various methods to train a dog, Kate is a major advocate for balanced, science-backed training methods. By teaching a dog what it is that you want it to do, you set the dog up to succeed. A good relationship with your dog comes from being firm, friendly, and fair.
Dogs need boundaries, just like humans. We owe it to our dogs to teach them how to live in our human world. This often means adjusting expectations - you cannot expect your dog to “know” what to do on its own. You must put in the time and effort in order to get results.
